Yelyzaveta Karabaza grew up being enamored by jewelry. As a toddler in post-Soviet Ukraine, she often looked through her mother’s treasure box mesmerized by every notch and detail of her family heirlooms and the stories they held. Karabaza first became interested in making jewelry as a pre-teen, when her uncle, a classically trained goldsmith, would visit her family in Crimea bringing pieces he’d made at his workshop in Germany.
Karabaza’s designs are inspired by her Ukrainian and Turkish heritage as well as the history of metalsmithing. She strives to create comforting pieces that can withstand the test of time. All of Karabaza’s work is hand-crafted using traditional fabrication techniques, making every piece truly unique.
Karabaza forges her jewelry at her studio in East Vancouver, Canada.
